Understanding MacDown Matrix Crash: A Study on Epidemiological Risk Factors

Road traffic injuries have become a significant public health concern, especially in developing countries like India. The capital city of Delhi is no exception, with a staggering number of road traffic accidents occurring every year. In this context, understanding the epidemiological risk factors associated with road traffic injuries is crucial for planning effective prevention and control strategies.

A recent study conducted at a government hospital in Delhi aimed to evaluate the epidemiological risk factors of road traffic injury victims using the Haddon matrix crash analysis framework. The study involved 544 participants who were admitted to the hospital following a road traffic accident. The findings revealed that motorized road users, particularly pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, were more likely to experience a crash on slippery roads.

Interestingly, the study found that pedestrians (36.2%) and pillion vehicle riders (21.5%) were disproportionately affected by road traffic accidents. This highlights the need for targeted interventions aimed at reducing the risk of crashes involving these vulnerable groups.
